Archaeological ash timber

Žemaitiškė-2 pile dwelling settlement is located close to lake Kretuonas, northeastern Lithuania. Wooden constructions were excavated in 2000–2001. Investigation of wood samples has revealed that ash was the main species used for constructions (57.1 %). Ash samples are characterised by narrow tree rings, which makes cross-dating complicated. Radiocarbon dates of four samples have revealed that these ash trees lived 3530–4920 BC (Pukienė, 2004). Investigation on wooden constructions of Žemaitiškė-2 pile dwelling settlement was supported by Lithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation.
